We get it–you have plenty of responsibilities, and that means that taking care of a pet can be tough sometimes! With these fish, you'll have a significantly easier time. Of course, like any pet, these fish require basic maintenance. However, you'll find that the amount of time you spend caring for these fish is significantly less than you would other animals.
The Standard Goldfish

Goldfish are a mainstay of beginner fish tanks. There are plenty of varieties of goldfish, but if you're a beginner, you should start with the long-body goldfish. This can include the comet, shubunkin, and sarasa varieties. In contrast, fancy goldfish are suitable for intermediate fish-keepers who have had these animals as pets before.
Goldfish come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so be mindful of this when you're selecting their tank. Regardless of the type that you select, you'll need at least 20 gallons per fish to begin. As they grow and get larger, a goldfish will need to be upgraded to a larger tank.
One thing that's important to note is that goldfish aren't great feed converters. This means that they'll produce more waste than other fish. You can reduce this by graduating yours to a pelted diet as soon as they're large enough. This will help cut down on food waste.

The Betta

Be mindful about what you put in your Betta's tank because they have long, delicate fins. They can be easily torn on sharp items used for decor. If you have concerns, you can even use Betta-specific decor.
If you're a beginner, you should start with one fish in their own tank. Many people choose to start with males, but it's up to you. Also, we want to note that it's important to not feed your Betta too much–and you should give them food specific to their breed.
