If y'all haven't seen this one before, spend some fourth dimension learning the basic blueprint and fingering.
Now, the focus will non exist on the exercise itself, only those little adjustments to your hands and fingers that you tin make to play piano faster.
Because it'south those little physical changes that end up making the most divergence to your skill level over time.
Anybody wants to play fast. Beingness a speed demon on the pianoforte dazzles and impresses. And it'due south really fun! 🎹 Faster Fingers 💨
Pace one: It'southward all in the wrist
The key to developing speed with this exercise is in your wrist.
What I mean by that is using slight rotations in your wrist to help go your fingers into position faster and more smoothly.
This allows my fingers to but press straight downward. I'thou not thinking of "muscling" each of my fingers individually.
That's only going to slow me down.
The rotation in the wrist shouldn't exist excessive. Simply slight plenty to move your fingers into the right position:
The other big affair to remember is…
Start SLOW.
I know I say this a lot, but that'south only considering it'due south so important. If this is new to you it volition feel a little odd to use your wrist like that.
So go slow, and make sure you're comfy. I recommend starting at a tempo between 60 and 80bpm.
Step 2: Recall ahead
Another crucial manner to increase your speed on the piano is to apply your brain.
You want to be thinking ahead every bit you're playing, so you lot can set yourself up for success.
Here's what I mean.
Every bit yous play this exercise, it will be super of import to be in the correct position at the first and the finish of each pattern.
To do that, you lot want to be thinking well-nigh the top and bottom notes. Because if you get those correct, the residuum will come naturally.
Allow's await at the opening mensurate.
As you play, notice that your thumb can gently slide up from that start C note to the D.
And that D is your next starting note. Y'all're already in position for the adjacent blueprint.
Step three: Offset ho-hum and memorize
I know I said information technology before, only it's worth repeating…
Showtime SLOW (Run across I even yelled information technology there).
Going too fast also soon is a recipe for bad habits, frustration, and ultimately failure.
To play piano faster with excellence ways beingness able to keep a steady beat out. So you lot'll want to use a metronome every bit you begin.
The metronome is also a neat way to track your progress. It's super encouraging to be able to SEE the difference in speed from day to 24-hour interval and week to week.
Y'all could even write it down in your practise periodical as a source of motivation and to encounter how far you lot've come up!
Stride four: What about the left paw?
You should admittedly do this with your left-hand besides. And we've included the left-manus fingering patterns on the sheet music.
But here's what you lot need to know…
It's completely normal to be slower in your left-hand than your correct. People go so frustrated here because they think:
"I tin can play at this bpm in my right-hand only my left-hand's slower."
That'southward normal.
Our left-hand is frequently the weaker hand because it doesn't do all the crazy tune playing that the right-hand does.
So be kind to yourself. Drib the tempo downward a little bit.
Final thoughts
This practice should take no longer than v minutes.
Only it's something you should strive to include in your regular do routine. Attempt it for a week, write downwardly your starting tempo and meet what progress you tin make!
I promise y'all enjoyed this tip on how to play piano faster and good luck!
